What is this?

Dependent arising (Pratītyasamutpāda in Sanskrit) is the primary interdependent relational process through which all phenomena arise and depend upon each other. It's the fundamental insight into the logic and the structure of reality that underpins the non-dual, nondualist philosophy of Buddhism. Dependent arising posits that no phenomenon can arise independently of other factors, rather all phenomena are inextricably connected to each other and in constant relationship with one another. It's part of the Buddhist practice of skillful means (upāya) - the practice of working from the conventional level of truth without attachment to any rigid doctrine. In the end, dependent arising offers a liberating vision of reality, which is the ultimate path to freedom and realization.
